LOWELL, Mass. - Head Coach Shannon Hlebichuk and the UMass Lowell field hockey team are ready for the new season, looking to further cultivate an identity for the program and set the tone for 2019 early. The River Hawks host two games during opening weekend, welcoming Fairfield to Wicked Blue Field for the first game of the year on Friday, August 30 before squaring off against No. 18 Syracuse on Sunday, September 1.

"We're really excited because I feel like we've been waiting a long time for this season to arrive," said Hlebichuk, who is entering her 18th year at the helm of the program. "We have a great group of returners, a great leadership group and a great group of freshmen that have made a strong impact early on in preseason."

Last season marked another year of growth for the River Hawks, who finished 2018 with an 8-10 overall record and a 2-5 mark in America East Conference play.

For this year, while the ultimate goal is to earn a berth into the America East Championship, Coach Hlebichuk says the squad is more focused on the journey, setting small goals along the way.
