River Hawks Host Merrimack Then Head to Wagner

LOWELL, Mass. – This week, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-4) caps off its four-game homestand looking for its third straight win, with a visit from Merrimack on Tuesday, March 5. The River Hawks will then head to Wagner for a Sunday afternoon matchup on March 10.


Last Time Out
A balanced scoring effort earned the River Hawks a 15-8 victory against Iona at Wicked Blue Field on Saturday. Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.) each had a hat trick, while six other players scored at least one goal.
 
Scouting Merrimack
Merrimack is searching for its first win of 2019 with a 0-2 record, having fallen to Mercy and LIU Post. Amber Feminella leads the way with five goals, while goalkeeper Lauren Trepaney has a .535 save percentage and 10.00 GAA.

Series History
This will be the first matchup between UMass Lowell and Merrimack.

Scouting Wagner
Wagner is heading into the matchup with a 3-2 record on the season. The Seahawks and River Hawks have faced two common opponents in Iona and Colgate. Like UMass Lowell, Wagner took down Iona (14-4), but the Seahawks were able to beat Colgate (12-11). Two Wagner players have tallied 10 goals on the season (Anna Belle Reilly and Madeline Seims), while Kelsey Fee has earned a 10.71 GAA in net.

Series History
The Seahawks and River Hawks have faced off once in program history, with UMass Lowell earning a 11-9 win in 2018. UMass Lowell scored the first three goals of the game, and both Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) had hat tricks.


Goals on Goals
The River Hawks scored 34 goals in the first three games of 2019, which was the most goals they've scored through the first three games of the season in program history. They now have 73 on the season (12.17 per game). Ten different River Hawks have scored goals this season, while 12 have tallied at least one point.


Record-Breaker
Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.) tallied seven goals against Holy Cross, a new program record. She now has 17 on the season and has moved into second place all-time in goals at UMass Lowell.
 
Gonzalez In Goal
Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) allowed just five goals against Holy Cross, and then eight against Iona, her two lowest goals allowed totals on the season. She had a season-high 13 saves against Iona and now has a 11.83 GAA in 2019.

M&M
MacEachern and Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.) have been offensive powerhouses this season. McKelvin had five goals at Fresno State, while MacEachern had six goals against Boston University a week later. MacEachern surpassed her 2018 goal total in just the first three games in 2019 and now has 18 goals on the season, which leads the team. McKelvin has scored 14 goals on just 21 shots for a team-high .667 shot percentage. Both McKelvin and MacEachern are now on the top-10 all-time goals list at UMass Lowell.

Solo Scoring
UMass Lowell has scored 31 unassisted goals this season, 10 of those coming from MacEachern.

Under Pressure
The River Hawks had a season-high 11 caused turnovers at Boston University, three of them from Gabby Torain (Glen Burnie, Md.). Through four games, Torain exceeded her caused turnover total from last year and now leads the team with 10.

Milestone Watch
Kelly Moran (Exeter, N.H.) tallied four draw controls against Colgate, tallying her 100th career draw control in the process. She is already at the top of the record books in all-time draw controls with 112. At Boston University, Finelli hit the 100-point mark and is now second all-time in scoring with 105 points, needing just five more to reach first place.

Strength in Seniors
The River Hawks boast a veteran squad with 10 seniors, a class that combined for 113 points in 2018.

Fresh Faces
UMass Lowell welcomes seven freshmen this season — Olivia Massena (Cicero, N.Y.), Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), Meredith Woo (Rochester, N.Y.), Lauren Katayama (Park Ridge, Ill.), Samantha Blair (West Islip, N.Y.), Julia Williams(Syracuse, N.Y.) and Ava Hoog (Ipswich, Mass.). Williams, Massena, Hopsicker, Woo and Blair have all seen action so far this season.

Leading the Way
Seniors Dudley, Keith, Gonzalez and Megan Albertsen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) are serving as captains this season.
