America East Action Commences as River Hawks Welcome UAlbany

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (3-6) is back at home after a two-game road trip for a tilt with UAlbany on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at Wicked Blue Field.

Last Time Out
The River Hawks almost completed a second-half comeback at Sacred Heart on Saturday, but ended up falling short, 11-8. Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.) both tallied hat tricks in the game.

 
Scouting UAlbany
The Great Danes own a 4-4 record, having faced tough opponents in Boston College, UConn, Penn State and Stanford. They are searching for their first road win in 2019 as they come to Wicked Blue Field. So far, UAlbany has scored 13.50 goals per game, and five players have double-digit goals on the season, led by Kyla Zapolski with 23 goals. Sam Tortora leads the team in points with 36 (14 goals, 22 assists), which ranks third in America East. Georgia Schneidereith has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Great Danes with a 12.85 GAA.

Series History
The River Hawks are looking for their first win against UAlbany, as the Great Danes hold a 4-0 all-time record against UMass Lowell. Last season featured a 14-5 loss for the River Hawks, with five different UMass Lowell players scoring.
 
America East Picture
As conference action begins, Vermont owns the top overall record, while the River Hawks sit at fifth. Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.), MacEachern and McKelvin are all in the top 10 in the conference in goals per game. Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) leads the America East in caused turnovers per game with 2.00, while Kelly Moran (Exeter, N.H.) is third in the conference in draw controls with 5.56.
 
Weekly Awards
Caster was named America East Defensive Player of the Week on March 11 after notching seven draw controls, six ground balls and eight caused turnovers through two games. Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) took home weekly defensive honors on March 4, while Keith earned AE Offensive Player of the Week after a program-record, seven-goal game.

Win Streak
UMass Lowell notched a three-game win streak from Feb. 27 through March 5, with victories against Holy Cross, Iona and Merrimack. That was the longest win streak since the River Hawks won six straight in March of 2017.

Goals on Goals
The River Hawks scored 34 goals in the first three games of 2019, which was the most goals they've scored through the first three games of the season in program history. They now have 99 on the season (11.00 per game). Ten different River Hawks have scored goals this season, while 12 have tallied at least one point.

Record-Breaker
Keith tallied seven goals against Holy Cross, a new program record. She now has 21 on the season (second on the team) and has moved into second place all-time in goals at UMass Lowell.
 
Gonzalez In Goal
Renee Gonzalez allowed just five goals against Holy Cross, and then eight against Iona, her two lowest goals allowed totals on the season. She had a season-high 13 saves against Iona and now has a 11.89 GAA in 2019.

M&M
MacEachern and Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.) have been offensive powerhouses this season. McKelvin had five goals at Fresno State, while MacEachern had six goals against Boston University a week later. MacEachern surpassed her 2018 goal total in just the first three games in 2019 and now has 23 goals on the season, which leads the team. McKelvin has scored 21 goals on just 30 shots for a team-high .700 shot percentage. Both McKelvin and MacEachern are now on the top-10 all-time goals list at UMass Lowell.

Solo Scoring
UMass Lowell has scored 44 unassisted goals this season, 13 of those coming from MacEachern.

Under Pressure
The River Hawks had a season-high 11 caused turnovers at Boston University, three of them from Gabby Torain (Glen Burnie, Md.). Through four games, Torain exceeded her caused turnover total from last year and now has 11. Caster leads the way with 18.

Milestone Watch
Moran tallied four draw controls against Colgate, tallying her 100th career draw control in the process. She is already at the top of the record books in all-time draw controls with 127. Caster moved into second place all-time in draw controls at Wagner, now with 86. At Boston University, Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) hit the 100-point mark and is now second all-time in scoring with 109 points, needing just one more to reach first place.
