River Hawks host pair of matches this weekend in America East play

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell Lowell enters America East play with a 1-13 overall record (0-1 AE) after a loss to New Hampshire (3-0) in the America East opener last Friday night. Junior outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) leads the team with 91 kills, while junior setter McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) has amassed a team-best 229 assists. Senior middle blocker Lade Adeniyi's (Springfield, Ill.) has totaled 31 blocks (6s,26a) to lead the River Hawks at the net.

SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES: Stony Brook owns a 7-8 overall record (1-0 AE) heading into Friday night's match, after a 3-0 victory against Hartford last Friday. Jordan Gels and McKyla Brooks record 12 and 11 kills, respectively in the win for the Seawolves. Leanne Sakowicz amassed 41 digs, while Kiani Kerstetter registered 13 digs. Brooks leads the team with 157 kills, while Emily Costello has posted 150 kills. Sakowicz has amassed 552 assists and Kerstetter leads the Stony Brook roster with 206 digs on the season.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. STONY BROOK: The River Hawks went 0-2 vs. the Seawolves last season with a pair of 3-0 losses on Oct. 7th and Nov. 3rd. UMass Lowell's lone win against Stony Brook in the all-time series came on November 14, 2015 in a 3-2 victory at Costello Athletic Center. The win marked the school's all-time first in America East play.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS: Hartford owns a 7-6 overall record (0-1 AE) after suffering a 3-1 loss to Bryant on Tuesday and a 3-0 loss in its America East opener against Stony Brook last Friday night. Jenna Bridges notched a team-high 13 kills for the Hawks in the losing effort, while Megan Anderson notched 45 assists and Alex Lucero totaled 18 digs on defense for the Hawks. Bridges leads the Hawks roster with 182 kills, while Anderson has recorded 474 assists. Lucero leads the team with 152 digs. 

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. HARTFORD: UMass Lowell lost both meetings to Hartford in 2017, a 3-0 loss on Nov. 12th in the season finale and a 3-2 loss on Oct. 13th at home. Lade Adeniyi and Katherine Claybaugh each posted a team-high 14 kills in the losing effort on Oct. 13th at Costello Athletic Center. UMass Lowell has beat Hartford once since joining America East, a 3-2 win on Oct. 22, 2016. Madi Bell had a team-best 17 kills in that victory for the River Hawks.

HOME OPENERS IN THE DIV. I ERA: The River Hawks lost to UNH in their home opener last year by a 3-2 score on September 22, 2017. UMass Lowell owns a 2-3 all-time record in its Div. I home openers with its last win coming on September 9th against Fairleigh Dickinson (3-2) in 2016.

LAST TIME OUT: Junior outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) amassed a team-high seven kills for the UMass Lowell Volleyball team in its straight sets loss at New Hampshire in the America East opener on Friday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. The set scores were 14-25, 17-25 and 11-25. Bell also added six digs and two service aces in the losing effort. Freshman outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) also chipped in with four kills, while senior libero Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) registered a team-high 10 digs in another strong defensive performance for the River Hawks. The River Hawks posted a team-best nine kills in the second frame and held UNH to only 10 kills in the opening set with a .074 hitting percentage. 

VISVARDIS DIGGING HER WAY TO THE TOP: Visvardis has recorded 1,438 digs in her 3+ years career since joining the River Hawks in 2015, which ranks 38th among active NCAA players. Visvardis ranks fifth on the all-time school digs list, as she passed Kristina Martell (1,275; 2004-2007) on the opening weekend at the Fullerton/Riverside Classic. She needs 14 digs to tie Stacey Graf for fourth place on the all-time UMass Lowell digs list. Visvardis' 3.45 digs per set is sixth best among America East players. She has amassed 169 digs in 49 sets this season, which is seventh among league players. She has registered 10+ digs in nine of 14 matches and she totaled a season-high 21 digs in the 3-2 win against Fairleigh Dickinson on September 1st.

AMERICA EAST LEADERS: 
Sophomore middle blocker Jess Jubb's (Millis, Mass.) 0.89 blocks per set rank third among America East players, while Lade Adeniyi's 0.74 blocks per game ranks eighth.

HOME SWEET HOME: The River Hawks played 14 straight road matches to open the season and will face Stony Brook in America East play on Friday night at Costello Athletic Center. UMass Lowell has gone 35 days to start the season without a home match.

ON TELEVISION: The final regular-season home match on Sunday, November 4th against Binghamton on Senior Day will be televised live on either ESPN3 or ESPN+.
