LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team will head down to Virginia for its first road trip of the season this week. The squad will visit Longwood for a 4 p.m. tilt on Thursday, August 30 before heading to Richmond for a neutral-site contest vs. No. 8 Louisville on Saturday, September 1.

UMass Lowell picked up a pair of wins last week in the first ever River Hawk Classic. The squad first defeated Bryant, 3-0, before topping Hofstra, 6-0, in the championship game. Senior

Scouting Longwood
The Lancers are 1-0 on the young season after defeating in-state rival Richmond, 2-1, in their 2018 opener at home. Olivia Wawrzyniak led the team in that outing with one goal and one assist for three points. Her tally was the game-winner in the 49th minute. Leonie Verstraete logged a goal of her own in the first half to get on the stats sheet for the new year. Goalkeeper Katie Wyman totaled seven saves in the complete-game performance.

Scouting No. 8 Louisville
The Cardinals own a 1-1 record so far in 2018. The squad defeated Indiana, 2-1, to open the new season on Aug. 24 before falling, 3-2, against Ohio State on Aug. 26. Erica Cooper is pacing the squad with two goals for four points so far. Katie Walsh and Maria Gomez each have one assist. Ayeisha McFerran has played both games in the cage for Louisville with six saves and a .600 save percentage. Â

The River Hawks and the Lancers have met just once previously, as UMass Lowell earned a hard-fought, 4-3 win in double overtime back in 2014. Saturday's contest will mark the first ever meeting between UMass Lowell and Louisville in the sport of field hockey.
