SPARKS, Md. -- Assistant Athletic Trainer
Casey MacNeil, MA, ATC, LAT (Waltham, Mass.) of the UMass Lowell Athletic Healthcare department has been named to the medical staff for the 2021 U.S. Women's Senior Team as an assistant athletic trainer by U.S. Lacrosse, which was announced last Tuesday.
"I am humbled and honored to be a part of U.S. Lacrosse and Team USA as a member of the medical staff for the Women's National Team," said MacNeil. "I'm looking forward to this great experience with Team USA. I want to thank Artie and the entire athletic healthcare department for their support in pursuing this goal."
MacNeil currently works with the field hockey and men's lacrosse programs at UMass Lowell.
"We are extremely happy and excited for Casey being named to the medical staff for the US Women's National Lacrosse Team," said Head Athletic Trainer
Artie Poitras. "As with athletes, the opportunity to be involved with the National team as an athletic trainer takes similar hard work, passion and dedication. Casey displays these traits as a member of our staff and undoubtedly, this is why she has earned this opportunity. It is a great opportunity for her to grow as a professional and represent UMass Lowell both nationally and internationally as a member of the US Lacrosse medical staff."
The team will be holding training weekends throughout the next few years at various locations across United States starting this fall. The team she is affiliated with will compete at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in July 2021 hosted at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland and the International World Games Association (IWGA) in July 2021 hosted in Birmingham, Alabama. In the IWGA there are approximately 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries that will compete in 30 sports during this time.
She has previously worked with the men's lacrosse programs Johns Hopkins University and LIU-Post. MacNeil received her undergraduate degree from Merrimack College, where she was a four-year member of the women's lacrosse program and served as captain during her senior year. MacNeil also was a four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during her playing days with the Warriors. She received her master's from Argosy University.
"We're very fortunate to have such strong interest from so many talented individuals to serve the athletes in our national teams program," said Ann Kitt Carpenetti, vice president of lacrosse operations for US Lacrosse. "Providing first class medical care to our athletes is critically important and we are proud to work with these professionals to meet their needs."
