River Hawks Fall at UAlbany, 14-5, in America East Action

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team fell, 14-5, on the road at UAlbany in conference action. The loss moves the River Hawks to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in America East action, while the Great Danes moved to 6-7 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
Needing two points coming into the tilt, Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) got just that in the form of an assist and a late goal to give her 100 career points, becoming the first player in program history to accomplish that feat.
UAlbany started the game on a 3-0 run over the first five minutes of the contest before Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) circled around from behind the net and shot one into the back of the net to cut the deficit to two with 22:34 remaining in the first.
The Great Danes scored twice in 11 seconds to extend their lead to four at 5-1, before Sokol found Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.) who shot it past the keeper and put the score within three with 18:12 on the clock in the first half.
Over 10 minutes of stagnant offense on both sides, the Great Danes called a timeout in their offensive zone to draw up a play and executed the play to break the drought and regain their four goal lead at 6-2 with 7:24 remaining in the first.
Neither side would score over the final minutes of the half thanks to a pair of saves by each keeper.
After UAlbany tacked on a goal to start the second half, Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) split two defenders at the top of the 12-meter arc and bounced one past the Great Dane keeper to make it a 7-3 contest with 21:20 remaining in regulation.Â
Austin Trasatti (Doylestown, Pa.) tallied a goal that quelled a 3-0 UAlbany run to cut the UMass Lowell deficit six at 10-4 with 16:25 remaining in the second.
The home squad responded with a goal of their own to make it 11-4 before Sokol scored her first of the night to make it an 11-5 game with just under 13 minutes to go in regulation.
The home team scored the final three goals of the day to take the contest 14-5.
Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) came in halfway through the second half and stopped five shots, while Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) stopped four of her own.
The squad returns to action next Saturday, April 21 when they host America East foe Binghamton for a 6 p.m. nightcap. Before the game, the River Hawks will honor its seven seniors in Courtney Barrett, Kaylan DiModugno, Erin Hatch, Ashley Horan, Sheila Nolan, Taylor Sokol and Austin Trasatti.
