LOWELL, Mass. -- Freshman outside hitter
Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) of the UMass Lowell Volleyball team was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office.
Bilyeu, who wins an America East weekly award for the first time her River Hawk career, totaled 15 kills, six digs and two total blocks in two road America East matches. She registered nine kills and a .368 hitting percentage in the 3-0 loss at Binghamton on Friday and followed that up with six kills and four digs in the 3-2 come from behind victory on Saturday at UMBC to help the River Hawks to their first America East win of the season. Bilyeu averaged 1.87 kills per set on the 1-1 weekend for the River Hawks.
She ranks third on the River Hawks' roster so far this season with 107 kills, 45 digs and 18 total blocks.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 12th against UAlbany. Match time from Costello Athletic Center is 7 p.m.
