River Hawk travel for pair of matches in America East play

UMass Lowell faces Binghamton Friday (7pm) and UMBC on Sunday (1pm)

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell Lowell enters the weekend with a 1-15 overall record (0-3 AE) after straight set losses to Stony Brook and Hartford last weekend at Costello Athletic Center. Junior outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) leads the team with 109 kills, while junior setter McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) has amassed a team-best 258 assists. Senior middle blocker Lade Adeniyi's (Springfield, Ill.) has totaled 36 blocks (7s,29a) to lead the River Hawks at the net. Bell led the River Hawks with 18 kills last week in two matches in America East play.

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS: Binghamton owns a 3-12 overall record (1-1 AE) after splitting its first two AE matches of the season, a 3-2 win at UMBC on September 21st and a 3-1 loss at UAlbany last Friday. Gabby Alicea led the team with 15 kills in the loss at Great Danes. Alicea leads the Bearcats with 185 kills on the season.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BINGHAMTON: The River Hawks were swept in straight sets by the Bearcats last season. UMass Lowell has never beaten them since joining America East.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS: UMBC owns a 4-12 overall mark coming into the week with a 0-2 record in conference play. Carmen Freeman led the Retrievers with 14 kills in their most recent loss to UAlbany last Sunday. UMBC owns a 2-3 record in five home matches so far this season. Freeman leads the team with 204 kills and 3.19 kills per set.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UMBC: UMass Lowell lost to UMBC twice in straight sets in 2017 and has never defeated UMBC in America East. 

LAST TIME OUT: Junior outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) totaled a team-best 11 kills for the UMass Lowell Volleyball team in the 3-0 loss to Hartford on Sunday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center in America East play. The set scores were 19-25, 21-25 and 21-25. Bell added an impressive team-high .476 hitting percentage, to go along four digs and three total blocks for UMass Lowell. Sophomores Grace Burkett (Lakeside, Calif.) and Morgan Given (Orlando, Fla.) each posted five total blocks apiece. Senior middle blocker Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) and freshman outside hitter Kate Bilyeu (Omaha, Neb.) each chipped in with seven kills in the losing effort. Adeniyi also hit at a .214 clip and recorded five total blocks. Junior outside hitter Lisa Bean (Dover, N.H.) set career-highs with six kills and four digs in her first career start for the River Hawks. UMass Lowell tied set two at 18-18 on a huge block from Bell and Burkett, but could not keep in the momentum in the second frame. The River Hawks had a team-best 14 kills in the opening stanza and posted 13 kills in the final set, to go along with a team-best .294 hitting percentage. UMass Lowell posted nine kills and hit at a .250 clip in the second set.  Hartford was led offensively by Jenna Bridges, who recorded a match-high 16 kills, while Alex Lucero amassed a match-high 21 digs on defense for the Hawks.

VISVARDIS DIGGING HER WAY TO THE TOP: Visvardis has recorded 1,455 igs in her 3+ years career since joining the River Hawks in 2015 and needs only 45 digs to reach the 1,500 career digs mark. She ranks 39th among active NCAA players. Visvardis ranks fourth on the all-time school digs list, as she passed Kristina Martell (1,275; 2004-2007) on the opening weekend at the Fullerton/Riverside Classic and then passed Stacey Graf (1999-02) for fourth place this past weekend. Visvardis' 3.38 digs per set is sixth best among America East players. She has amassed 186 digs in 55 sets this season, which is seventh among league players. She has registered 10+ digs in 10 of 16 matches and she totaled a season-high 21 digs in the 3-2 win against Fairleigh Dickinson on September 1st.

AMERICA EAST LEADERS: Sophomore middle blocker Jess Jubb's (Millis, Mass.) 0.83 blocks per set ranks fourth among America East players, while Lade Adeniyi's 0.75 blocks per game ranks ninth.

ON TELEVISION: The final regular-season home match on Sunday, November 4th against Binghamton on Senior Day will be televised live on either ESPN3 or ESPN+.
