ORONO, Maine – The UMass Lowell field hockey team (7-6, 1-4 AE) fell, 4-1, at No. 17 Maine (12-2, 3-1 AE) on Friday afternoon.

Senior Torrie Huk (Milford, Del.) tallied the lone goal for the River Hawks in the outing, while junior goalkeeper Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) totaled six saves.

The Black Bears earned the first corner of the day for either side and was able to capitalize on the opportunity thanks to a back-handed sweep on target by Casey Crowley, giving the home squad the 1-0 advantage just over a minute into play.

Maine then extended its margin to 3-0 before the break, as Crowley got the final touch on an initial pass from Brooke Sulinski in the 15th minute and Brianna Ricker scored from the post on a designed corner in the 25th.

Huk put the River Hawks on the board with an unassisted goal in the 67th minute to jolt the visitors' offense, but Maine answered a minute later, securing the 4-1 outcome.

The Black Bears now own a 12-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. The River Hawks return home on Sunday, October 14 to take on Vermont at 2 p.m. in the squad's Alumni Day game.
