SAN MARCOS, TEXAS --
Sophomore outside hitter Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) recorded a match-high 14 kills and junior co-captain Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) totaled a career-high 33 digs for the UMass Lowell Volleyball team in the 3-1 loss to Houston Baptist in the opening match of the Creeds and Crests Classic on Friday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum.

The set scores were 25-21, 19-25, 22-25 and 16-25.

UMass Lowell drops to 3-4 overall on the season, while the Huskies stay perfect with a 6-0 overall mark.

"This is a match we could have won so we are clearly disappointed, but I am very positive with how we started the match," said Head Coach Resa Provanzano. "We are a force to be reckoned with when we are playing UMass Lowell Volleyball.  If we can work towards some consistency in our play and in our energy we have exciting things waiting ahead."

Claybaugh also added 11 digs, while junior outside hitter Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) chipped in with nine kills and six digs in the losing effort. Claybaugh had the set-clinching kill in the opening frame.

Junior setter Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) totaled 36 assists running the River Hawks' offense. Senior outside hitter Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) also finished with seven kills with a .211 hitting percentage.

Sophomore outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) totaled six kills and a team-best .400 hitting percentage.

The River Hawks opened the first set with a match-high 17 kills and a .261 hitting percentage.

The River Hawks return to action in the final day of the Creeds and Crests Classic with a 11am (CT) match against host Texas State and a 3pm (CT) match against Southern Methodist.
