LOWELL, Mass. –
The UMass Lowell field hockey team will play two more non-conference matchups this weekend, as the squad first wraps up a three-game homestand against Fairfield on Friday, September 15 at 4 p.m. before traveling to in-state foe Massachusetts on Sunday, Sept. 17 for a 3 p.m. contest.
 
River Hawk Rewind
UMass Lowell currently owns a 4-2 record so far in 2017 after splitting a pair of games at home last week. The team first clawed out a 2-1 triple overtime win against Georgetown on Sept. 8. Freshman Sophie Gehrels (Zeist, Utrecht, Netherlands) found the back of the cage in the sudden-victory shootout period to lift the squad to the decision. Then on Sept. 10, the River Hawks faced a 5-2 setback against Pacific.
 
Leading the Flock
Through six games, sophomore Anouk Lalande (Brussels, Belgium) paces the River Hawks with six goals and 13 points. Junior Torrie Huk (Milford, Del.) follows closely with five goals for 10 points. Senior Christa Doiron (Worcester, Mass.) adds a team-best four assists. Sophomore Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) owns the 4-2 record in the cage, totaling 46 saves for a .793 save percentage.
 
Scouting Fairfield
The Stags sit at 1-4 so far this season, having dropped a pair of decisions at home last week. The squad first faced a 4-0 setback against Lafayette on Sept. 8 before being handed a 4-3 loss in overtime against Columbia on Sept. 10. Andrea Soler and Sam Giordano are leading Fairfield with two goals and four points apiece, while Jacklyn Gallagher chips in with three points. Hannah Pike is first on the team with two assists. Goalkeeper Zoe Rosen has appeared in four games for the Stags, boasting 29 saves for a .707 save percentage.
 
Scouting Massachusetts
The Minutewomen own a 4-2 mark so far in 2017. The squad will travel to North Carolina to square off against Davidson on Sept. 15 for their Atlantic 10 opener before hosting UMass Lowell on Sept. 17. Last week, Massachusetts picked up two wins with a 1-0 decision against Sacred Heart on Sept. 8 and a 2-1 victory against Boston University on Sept. 10. Lucy Cooper is pacing the offense with four assists and 12 total points, while Sarah Hawkshaw follows closely with a team-best five goals and 11 points. Emily Hazard has registered 22 saves for a .688 save percentage and a 1.71 goals against average.
 
Series History
The River Hawks and the Stags will be meeting for the 12th time ever on Friday. UMass Lowell owns an 8-3 edge in that all-time series, although Fairfield has taken both outings at the Division I level, including a 3-2 overtime win in 2014. Sunday's contest will mark the fifth meeting between the River Hawks and the Minutewomen, as UMass Lowell will look to earn their first win against their University of Massachusetts system foe. 
 
Around the League
The River Hawks currently tied for first in the East Division standings with Maine (4-2). The team is also ranked second overall in the league for saves (48), third for shots (92), and fourth for goals scored (12) and assists (12). Individually, Torrie Huk is second in the America East in shots per game (5.5) and Anouk Lalande is second in goals (6).
 
Three Cheers
The River Hawks picked up three consecutive overtime wins for the first time in program history from Sept. 1-8. All of the decisions ended in a 2-1 score, as the team defeated both Miami (Ohio) and Ball State in a single extra period before outlasting Georgetown in a hard-fought outing that went to a sudden-death shootout. The Georgetown match marked the first time the River Hawks have gone to a shootout since 2011.  
 
Weekly Awards
Torrie Huk garnered River Hawk of the Week honors on Sept. 7 with two game-winning overtime goals. Eva Berkhout received Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 7, having boasted a 0.90 goals against average and a .867 save percentage with 13 saves in two overtime wins. Anouk Lalande was named Offensive Player of the Week and River Hawk of the Week on Aug. 29 after leading the league with seven points in two games.
 
Notables
Sophie Gehrels scored her first career goal against Pacific (9.10) … Katie Lynes registered her first career point with an assist against Georgetown (9.8) … Eva Berkhout tied a career high with 11 saves against Georgetown (9.8).
