River Hawks fall in three sets at Iona

Sophomore outside hitter Madi Bell paced the River Hawks' offense with 12 kills in the losing effort

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. --
The UMass Lowell Volleyball team fell in straight sets at Iona in its final non-conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Hynes Athletic Center. The set scores were 25-18, 28-26 and 25-23.

The River Hawks drop to 5-19 overall with the loss, while the Gaels improve their mark to 12-17 overall on the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) registered a match-high 12 kills and a .346 hitting percentage in the loss. Freshman outside hitter Morgan Given (Orlando, Fla.) also chipped in with eight kills and a match-high .368 hitting percentage. Grace Burkett (Lakeside, Calif.), Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) and Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) each posted six kills apiece in the match against the Gaels. Claybaugh also totaled 14 digs on defense. 

Junior co-captain Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) posted a match 24 digs to pace the River Hawks' defense. Junior middle blocker Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) totaled a team-high three total blocks.

Junior Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) and sophomore McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) each posted 17 assists apiece running the River Hawk offense. 

The River Hawks as a team posted 16 kills and a .316 hitting percentage in the third frame, after a 14-kill effort in the second set. 

UMass Lowell returns to the court on Friday, November 10th at UMBC. Match time from RAC Arena in Baltimore, Md. is 7 p.m.
