TEAM IMPACT NIGHT: The River Hawks will honor Team IMPACT match Amayah Brown in a special pre-game ceremony on Saturday night. Brown, who is in her second season with the team, officially joined the UMass Lowell Volleyball program through a Team IMPACT Draft Day event on February 9th, 2016 at the Tsongas Center. Brown, who is an 8-year old from Chelmsford, Mass. was diagnosed at birth with a connective tissue disease. Amayah's disease is like a piece of a chromosome is missing and she has a seizure disorder, some cardiac complications and she is fed through a G-tube (a small tube surgically placed in her stomach to receive medications and/or feedings). Amayah is non-verbal, but is beginning to learn to use an IPad to communicate. She does use a walker and/or wheelchair to get around, but can walk short distances if someone holds her hand. Amayah likes people very much and although she doesn't talk, she connects very well with people. With all that Amayah has battled through, she truly epitomizes what it means to be a fighter and is an inspiration to all of her River Hawk teammates.
