LOWELL, Mass. -- The UMass Lowell Volleyball team fell to UMBC in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center in America East play on Kids Takeover Day. The set scores were 22-25, 18-25 and 20-25.Â
With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 5-14 overall (0-6 AE), while the Retrievers improve to 12-7 overall (4-1 AE).Â
"I thought UMBC played a great match today and we unfortunately struggled to get into an offensive rhythm," said Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "We would see streaks, but trying to find a little bit of rhythm, fewer unforced errors we just bring those down again, especially against a big block like UMBC."
Sophomore outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) registered a match-high 13 kills to go along with 12 digs. Freshman middle blocker
Grace Burkett (Lakeside, Calif.) amassed a career-high 10 kills with a .217 hitting percentage in the losing effort for UMass Lowell.Â
Junior middle blocker
Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) chipped in with seven kills and two total blocks. Sophomore
McKenna Bova (Corona, Calif.) and junior
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) split time running the River Hawks' offense with 20 and 16 assists, respectively.
Junior co-captain
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) posted a match-high 15 kills leading the River Hawk defense.Â
UMBC's Carmen Freeman added a team-high nine kills in the victory, while Krytsia Negron totaled a team-high 13 digs.Â
The River Hawks totaled 16 kills in the opening frame and 15 kills in the final set.Â
UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, October 20th at New Hampshire. Game time in America East play from Lundholm Gymnasium in Durham, N.H. is 7 p.m.
