BURLINGTON, Vt. –
The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-11, 0-3 AE) faced a 13-2 setback to Vermont (5-7, 1-2 AE) in a midweek conference matchup Wednesday afternoon.

The River Hawks saw goals from sophomore attacker Taylor Sokol and sophomore midfielder Kaylan DiModugno (Deer Park, N.Y.), as Sokol extended her point streak to five games.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) recorded six saves in the outing, while freshman midfielder Kristina Keith (Exeter, N.H.) and sophomore defenseman Sheila Nolan (Massapequa, N.Y.) picked up a team-high three ground balls.

The River Hawks trailed early in the contest, as the Catamounts jumped out to a 3-0 lead nearly seven minutes into the match. Two of Vermont's three goals came off free position shots, as the home team took advantage of both UMass Lowell fouls.

DiModugno broke the blank sheet for UMass Lowell for a 3-1 score, as the sophomore notched her fifth goal of the season with 16:45 to play in the first half.

The Catamount's retaliated quickly, tacking on back-to-back goals to take a 5-1 advantage with 11:04 remaining.

UMass Lowell fought back to cut the deficit 5-2 after Sokol netted her only tally of the game and the River Hawks last goal of the match.

The home team went on to post four consecutive goals and grab a 9-2 lead as time expired in the first half. Vermont saw four different goals scorers through the first 30 minutes of play, including a hat trick by Vanessa VanderZalm.

Vermont finished the second half posting four goals and shutting out UMass Lowell, as the Catamounts snatched their first conference win of the season with a 13-2 victory.

The River Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 9, when the No. 9 Stony Brook Seawolves visit Wicked Blue Field for a 12 p.m. tilt.
