
River Hawks Ninth After Day One at Lehigh Valley Invitational

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – The UMass Lowell men's golf team is sitting ninth out of 19 teams after the first round at the Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Invitational hosted by Lafayette College.

The River Hawks shot a team total of 33-over-par 317 at the Silver Creek Country Club.
Â
Fordham University is currently in first place with a first-round score of 303. Lafayette is in second with a score of 306, followed by Villanova University with 310.

Sophomore Kevin Scott (Tyngsborough, Mass.) led UMass Lowell on day one with a 5-over-par 76, tying him for 10th overall. Sophomore Eric Byrne (Derry, N.H.) was second on the team with a 77, followed by junior Jonathan Burgin (Hampshire, England) with an 81.

Junior Joe Vanaman (Kirby-In-Ashfield, Nottingham, England) was fourth with a score of 84, and junior Ryan Paris (Haverhill, Mass.) rounded out the team with an 84.

"We are very pleased that all our players played well in very adverse weather conditions," said head coach Ken Hughes. "Kevin Scott, Eric Byrne, Jonny Burgin, Joe Vanaman and Ryan Paris showed great patience and resilience to post good scores for our team on a Donald Ross-designed gem of a course."

The River Hawks, as a team, averaged 3.60 strokes per par 3 on the day. They also averaged 4.53 strokes per par 4 and 5.33 strokes per par 5.

Lafayette College led the field with 53 total pars, while Fordham led with nine birdies. Fordham also recorded the only eagle on the day.

UMass Lowell parred 44 holes in the round and birdied eight.

The River Hawks finish the tournament tomorrow, April 4, with their first tee time at 1:30 p.m.
