LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Laura Kender (Chelmsford, Mass.) caused a career-high three turnovers as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team's (1-16, 0-6 AE) second half rally fell short, as Harvard (8-6, 3-3 Ivy) took home the 12-5 victory Tuesday night.

Tonight's nightcap wrapped up the 2016 season, as the River Hawks honored their two seniors, defenseman Laura Kender and midfielder Elizabeth Kender (Chelmsford, Mass.), with a special pre-game ceremony.

"At halftime we asked them to come out and do one thing, be competitive," said Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "They came out and really gave a much better effort all around. They were competing with a very good Harvard team, and we were able to chip away at it."

Freshman attacker Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) and sophomore attacker Kaylan Dimodugno (Deer Park, N.Y.) each notched a team-high two goals for the River Hawks, while sophomore attacker Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) jumped in with a goal and assist of her own, as the three recorded a team-best two points apiece.

UMass Lowell, who once saw themselves down by 10 goals in the contest, put together a 5-0 run in the second half to cut the deficit to five. Harvard would eventually hold off the River Hawks to spoil the potential comeback.

Harvard took control early in the first half, posting 10 unanswered goals and storming into halftime with a commanding 10-0 lead. The Crimson saw eight different goal scorers in the first 30 minutes of play, including two tallies from Marisa Romeo and Alexis Nicolia.

The visitors went on to outshoot the home squad 21-1 in the first half, as sophomore Courtney Barrett's (South Burlington, Vt.) eight first half saves would eventually translate into a offensive surge for the River Hawks in the second half.

After a big save from Barrett to begin the second half, UMass Lowell turned the defensive stop into an immediate goal from DiModugno making it a 10-1 game. With 20:53 to play, DiModugno scored her ninth goal of the season off a free position shot.

The game would go on to see 13 minutes of scoreless action until Sokol and DiModugno found the back of the net, less than a minute apart, to cut the score to 10-3.

The River Hawks cut the ten-goal deficit in half when Idson scored back-to-back goals for a 10-5 score. The attackers goals came within 30 second of each other but would eventually result in the final scores for the home team.

The Crimson tacked on two final goals before time ran out to seal the 12-5 victory and take a 2-0 lead in the all-time series.

The second year program saw many positive strides in the 2016 season, the most memorable being the River Hawk's first program win, an 12-8 decision over Siena on March 3.
