LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman attacker
Noelle Lambert (Londonderry, N.H.) notched a team-high two goals, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-15, 06 AE) was downed, 12-4, by Binghamton (5-11, 1-4 AE) in the team's final America East tilt.
Binghamton opened up the scoring, converting on their first shot of the game to take an early 1-0 lead just 3:08 into the first half. After causing a UMass Lowell turnover, the Bearcats took advantage of the River Hawk's blunder and found the back of the net for the first time in the match.
Minutes later, UMass Lowell got its chance to even the score and soon made the best of it when Lambert tallied her first of the game to knot the score 1-1. The offensive drive began with a pair of shots by sophomore attackers
Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) and
Kaylan DiModugno (Deer Park, N.Y.) that tested the Bearcat's defense, before Lambert created a path for her 14 score of the season.
The score did not remain tied to long, as the Bearcats kicked their offense up a notch, scoring three consecutive goals, including two within 45 seconds, to carry a 4-1 edge with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
With two and a half minutes remaining in the first half, freshman attacker
Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) connected with freshman midfielder
Kristina Keith (Exeter, N.H.) to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The visitors found their groove in the second half, as the squad went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-2 lead with 16:27 remaining. Three of Binghamton's five goals came from attacker Callon Williams, who posted a game-high four goals.
Freshman attacker
Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.) broke up Binghamton's run with a goal of her own. Freshman midfielder
Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) fed Dudley with a pass six meters out, who then made a move to make it a 9-3 game.
Binghamton recorded their final three goals of the outing with a 3-0 run for a 12-3 advantage with less than 10 minutes to play.
Lambert rounded out the scoring with style as she added her second tally of the game with a behind the back goal, for a 12-4 final score.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) scooped up a game-high four ground balls, in addition to making 13 saves in net.
Sunday's contest marked the second ever meeting between the two squads in the sport of women's lacrosse as Binghamton now holds a 2-0 edge in the all-time series. The River Hawks will wrap up their season with a 7 p.m. nightcap on Tuesday April, 26 on Senior Day, as UMass Lowell will honor its seniors with special pregame ceremony.
