Jacksonville, Fla. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-6) was defeated in non-conference action, 16-2, at Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) recorded 13 saves in the outing, while sophomore attacker Taylor Sokol (Hopkinton, Mass.) posted a team-best four shots in the contest.

After five minutes of scoreless action to open play, Jacksonville struck first to take the 1-0 advantage, after turning a save off a shot from freshman forward Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) into a tally for the home team.

Four minutes later, freshman attacker Noelle Lambert (Londonderry, N.H.) notched the River Hawk's first goal of the contest to knot the score, 1-1, with 21:46 to play in the first half. The Dolphins soon countered with a goal of their own, 50 seconds later to regain a lead, 2-1, they would hold for the remainder of the game.

Jacksonville went on to score five consecutive goals to post a 7-1 lead to round out the first half of play. The Dolphin's Rachel Aus recorded a game-high three points in the first half (2g, 1a), helping give the team a comfortable lead going into halftime.

The home team came out strong after the break, tacking on three goals in less than three minutes to jump out to a 10-1 lead. Jacksonville would tack on three more goals to extend their lead to 14-1 with 13:34 left to play in regulation.

Freshman midfielder Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.) ended the River Hawks dry spell after blasting one past the Jacksonville goaltender and into the back of the net, making the score 14-2.

The Dolphins notched two more goals before time expired to secure the team's 16-2 home victory. Jacksonville saw eleven different goals scorers, including five players with two a team-high two goals apiece.

Wednesday's contest marked the first ever meeting between the River Hawks and the Dolphins, as Jacksonville picks up the 1-0 advantage in the all-time series. UMass Lowell is back in action on Friday, March 18 at Stetson for a 6 p.m. tilt.
