LOWELL, Mass. -- Freshman outside hitter
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) notched a match-high 17 kills in the 3-2 loss to UAlbany in America East play on Sunday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center. The set scores were 12-25, 26-24, 25-23, 23-25 and 7-15.Â
With the loss, the River Hawks drop to 6-18, 1-8 in league play, while the Great Danes keep pace in first place in the America East standings with a 8-1 record (14-7 overall).Â
With the River Hawks down 24-23 in set two, they rattled off three straight points to even the match at one set apiece, which included a kill by
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.). UMass Lowell found themselves in the same spot in set three and scored three straight points on two kills by sophomore middle blocker
Lade Adeniyi (Springfield, Ill.) and one kill by sophomore outside hitter
Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa). Adeniyi, who finished the match with 10 kills, notched the set-clinching kill in the third frame.Â
Claybaugh also notched eight digs, while Shimon posted a solid 13 kills in the losing effort.Â
Sophomore
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) amassed 49 assists, six digs and two service aces running the River Hawk offense and sophomore liberoÂ
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) once again turned in another stellar defensive performance with 20 digs.
Sophomore
Erica Cappellino (Penfield, N.Y.) amassed 10 digs in the match against the Great Danes. Senior middle blocker
Lauren Bennett (Wilmington, Mass.) chipped in with five kills, a team-high .231 hitting percentage and six total blocks.Â
The River Hawks recorded a match-high 16 kills in set three and a match-high .268 hitting percentage in the second set.Â
