LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's volleyball fell in three sets (24-26, 15-25, 14-25) to the Binghamton Bearcats on Friday night.

With the loss, the River Hawks fell to 6-17, 1-7 America East and the Bearcats improved to 11-11 and 5-3 in America East play.

In set one the River Hawks jumped out to an 11-6 lead behind three kills each from
Madi Bell (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and
Katherine Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.). After Binghamton got within 13-12, UMass Lowell went on a 7-3 run to take a 20-13 advantage. The Bearcats battled back to tie up the set at 21-21 and take a 23-21 lead, for their first buffer of the night. The River Hawks were able to stop the run and knot up the score at 24-24, but the visitors were able to score the next two points to win 26-24.

The Bearcats took set two with the help of a 10-5 run after they built up a 15-10 advantage. UMass Lowell took an early 1-0 lead and tied it up a 2-2, but Binghamton was able to open a 9-4 lead.

Haley Shimon (Des Moines, Iowa) led the attack with four kills in the frame, and
Delaney Mendez (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied three assists. Through the first two sets, Shimon and Claybaugh led the hosts with eight and six kills, respectively, while Mendez had 15 helpers.

In the final set the River Hawks got within 9-6 but could not trim the lead anymore as the Bearcats continued to maintain at least a five-point buffer throughout.

Mendez finished the night with 19 assists and Shimon recorded nine kills for the hosts. Both Shimon and
Lindsey Visvardis (Homer Glen, Ill.) registered a service ace apiece.

Binghamton's Lauren Kommann had a game-high 12 kills and Sarah Ngo had 34 assists to lead both teams.

The River Hawks are back in action on Sunday, October 30 for an afternoon matinee at Costello, hosting the UAlbany Great Danes at 1 p.m.
