LOWELL, Mass. -Â UMass Lowell men's golf head coach Ken Hughes has announced his team's fall schedule for 2015-16. The program will compete in six tournaments over the course of their third fall season in Division I.
Â
"We are excited to get on the golf course," Hughes said. "We have an ambitious six- tournament fall schedule where we will be tested against the highest level of competition."
Â
The River Hawks will begin their fall slate with the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate Tournament on September 12-13. Hosted by Central Connecticut State, the event will be held at the Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield, Conn.
Â
UMass Lowell will also be competing in the ECAC Division I Men's Intercollegiate Golf Championship at The Club at River Oaks in Sherman, Conn. This is the first time since 2013 that the River Hawks will compete in the ECAC Championship, where they finished fifth that year.
Â
The River Hawks wrap up their fall schedule on October 25-26 with the NEIGA Fall Championship at the Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. Last fall, the River Hawks had their best finish of the season at the NEIGA Fall Championship, where they finished second out of seven teams.
Â
UMass Lowell will compete in only one tournament in Massachusetts during the fall season, while taking part in four in Connecticut and one in New York.
Â
"Our team includes a nice mix of young, yet tournament-tested, returning players," Hughes said. "We look forward to our incoming golfers adding strength to our team as we continue to build on the foundation that coaches Gary Mucica, Jim Mahoney, Bill Mucica and their River Hawk players put in place."
Hughes was announced as the new head coach of the men's golf team on August 1, succeeding Jim Mahoney and his five-year stint with the River Hawks.
