River Hawks Fall to Quinnipiac, 15-5

LOWELL, Mass. – Jesse Jay (Amherst, N.H.) scored a career-high three goals, but the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats 15-5 on a wet, cold day at Wicked Blue Field Saturday.

"We're on the next game, I think it's important for us to put things behind us and learn from it, said Head Coach Carissa Medeiros. "This will certainly help us over the next week, we have a good six or seven days to prepare for our next opponent. Doing some film breakdown after this game will certainly be important going into our conference slate."

The Bobcats (1-6) scored the game's first goal at 28:38 of the first half before Emily Wright (Avon, Conn.) knotted up the score at 1-1. The midfielder had control of the ball and ran around the arc before firing a waist-high shot past Kyle Larkin.

Kelly Babstock scored her first of three first half goals to take the 2-1 lead on the man-up advantage with 22:16 to play in the first half.

Jay responded for the River Hawks (0-7)with her first goal at 18:!7 on a high shot that snuck under the crossbar to tie the score at 2-2.

Quinnipiac went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-2 lead with 22:16 remaining in regulation. Jay ended the run with her seventh goal of the season with 16:00 on the clock. Liz Auffant registered her first career point with the assist, Wright scored her second goal of the game on a low shot that snuck past Larkin with 8:44 left in regulation.

Jay completed the hat trick with 6:13 on the clock with a bad-angle sideways shot that snuck in along the post. She now leads the team with nine goals and five assists for 14 points. 

Courtney Barrett (South Burlington, Vt.) made 11 saves, including 11 in the first half. Larkin earned the win with four saves, and Rachel Massicotte made two saves in 6:13 of relief.

UMass Lowell continues its four-game home stand with its first America East game, taking on Albany on March 21 at 12 p.m.
