LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team will return to action this Saturday, September 27 when the squad welcomes UC Davis of the Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NORPAC) to Wicked Blue Field in Lowell for a 1 p.m. tilt.

River Hawk ReviewUMass Lowell enters this week with a 3-5 overall record. Last week, the squad snapped a four-game skid with a 3-2 victory at Quinnipiac on Sept. 16 before falling, 3-1, against Hofstra on Sept. 19.

Bianca Jones (Watertown, Mass.) paces the River Hawks with six goals, including two game-winners, for 12 total points. Sophomore
Georgia Cowderoy (Ashmore, Queensland, Australia) has added to the offensive effort with two goals and three assists for seven points, while classmate
Eleonore Agneessens (Brussels, Belgium) follows with five points. Freshmen
Fiona Fitzgerald (Lexington, Mass.) and
Christa Doiron (Worcester, Mass.) have logged four points apiece, as well. Freshman goalkeeper
Kelsey Federico (Windham, N.H.) has anchored the backfield with one shutout and 48 saves for a .727 save percentage.

Scouting UC DavisThe Aggies travel to Lowell in the midst of a three-game tour of New England that includes stops at Bryant and Northeastern. Kayla Wigney currently leads the team with four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points. Beth Lee and Makheila MacDonald have split time in the cage, as Lee has started four games with 14 saves and MacDonald has started the other three games with 17 saves.

Series HistorySaturday's contest marks the first meeting ever between the two squads in the sport of field hockey.

News to NoteThe River Hawks 2-0 start in 2014 marked their best since 2010 when the squad went 24-0 and won the NCAA Division II National Championship. In addition, the team's 4-3, double-overtime win against Longwood on Aug. 31 was its first overtime win since Sept. 4, 2011 (vs. #9 Millersville), and first ever in Division I. UMass Lowell has come on strong late in games this season, scoring nine of their 15 goals so far in either second half or overtime action.
Kelsey Federico notched a personal-best 11 saves against UMass on Sept. 14. The team's 3-2 win at Quinnipiac on Sept. 16 was the program's first Division I road win.
