RIVER HAWKS FALL 5-1 TO ALBANY IN SEASON FINALE

Box Score The River Hawks first season in Division I came to an end Saturday afternoon at Wicked Blue Field in Lowell, Mass. UMass Lowell were defeated 5-1 by #15 Albany.  
 
The day started by honoring UMass Lowell five seniors, Cori Trask, Janelle DeCamillis, Kayla MacDonald, Melissa Effertz and Melanie Hopkins.   
 
Albany Liza Morgan opening the scoring in the 22nd minute from Paula Heuser. Heuser goal in the 30 minute came off a corner gave the Great Danes a 2-0 halftime lead.
 
The Great Danes Molly Mariano goal in the 54th minute and Heuser second of the night in the 55th minute stretch the lead to 4-0.
 
The River Hawks finally got on the board in the 60th minute, when senior F Melissa Effertz (Oceanside, Calif.) took a pass from junior Chelsea Chronopoulos (Tyngsborough, Mass.).  
 
Albany would close out the scoring when Mariano put home her second of the day after some nifty stick handling that beat a couple defenders.
 
Senior goalkeeper Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) finished with 12 saves, while Great Dane's goalie Maxi Primus earned the win with one save in net.     
 
Albany outshot UMass Lowell 25-4 overall (17-2 on target) and had a 9-3 advantage on penalty corners.
 
The River Hawks finished its first Division I season with a 2-16 overall record (1-3 America East) and Albany improves to 15-4, (4-1 America East).
