Sophomore goaltender Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for January, as announced on Wednesday afternoon by the conference office. Carr was 4-2-0 last month with a .944 save percentage and 1.65 goals against average.
This is the second monthly award for Carr as he was named Goaltender of the Month in November. The second-year netminder stopped 169-of-179 shots in six games and posting one shutout. Carr backstopped UMass Lowell to a pair off weekend sweeps over Northeastern and Massachusetts.
Carr made 28 saves against the Huskies in a 4-0 shutout on Jan. 20 at the Tsongas Center. He followed by making 29 saves in a 3-2 OT win at Northeastern the next night. The following weekend in a home-and-home series with the Minutemen he turned away 62 of 66 shots.
For the year, Carr is carrying 1.82 goals against average and .935 save percentage with a 15-4-0 record. He ranks fourth in the nation in goals against average and is tied for fourth in save percentage.
Carr and UMass Lowell enter the weekend ranked ninth in the country according to the USCHO.com and USA Today polls. The River Hawks host the Catamounts of Vermont in two games this weekend at the Tsongas Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. each night.
