There are two matches left in the regular season after tonight for UMass Lowell, but the shape of the postseason is significantly impacted by the outcome of tonight's game.

The rivalry between UMass Lowell and Merrimack came to a peak last year as the Warriors prevailed in the regular season match (2-1) in North Andover to earn the No. 1 seed for the NE-10 Tournament and the bye for the NCAA Tournament semifinal.

UMass Lowell went on to capture the NE-10 Tournament  (3-2) as well as the NCAA Tournament semifinal round (3-1) against the Warriors en route to its fifth straight appearance in the NCAA finals, where it suffered a 2-1 heartbreak to West Chester University.

The River Hawks meet a Merrimack team which has won six straight matches and outscored opponents 27-6. The Warriors' sole Conference blemish came in a 2-1 loss at Assumption on Sept. 26.

Similarly, UMass Lowell has won three straight matches following a 2-0 loss at Bentley on Oct. 4 by a composite score of 17-2. After tonight's match, the River Hawks will celebrate Senior Night Thursday against Assumption (7:00) and cap the regular season Saturday at American International.

After dropping back-to-back matches, UMass Lowell (8-9, 3-4) is looking to       rebound at home against Bentley tonight at the Costello Athletic Center. A victory over the Falcons tonight could go a long way as far as qualifying for the postseason. The River Hawks are currently tied for seventh place, and with a little help from other matches, could leap frog as high as fifth.

Bentley lost its fourth straight match on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Franklin Pierce. Previously, the Falcons suffered a 3-2 loss at Saint Michael's and went 1-3 in the Palm Beach Atlantic University Tournament. Bentley may be near the bottom of the Conference standings, but the Falcons rank fifth in the Northeast-10 in serving.

After a come-from-behind victory over St. Michael's College (10-6, 2-3) last Tuesday, UMass Lowell was defeated by NYIT (3-1) and NE-10 frontrunner New Haven (3-0) over the weekend.

After taking on Bentley, UMass Lowell continues its homestand with Adelphi Friday night (7:00) and Pace Saturday (1:00).
