Vallorani Named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week

Jan. 3, 2012

Senior winger David Vallorani (Hamilton, Ont.) was named UMass Lowell’s Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Tuesday after receiving the Most Valuable Player award and helping lead the River Hawks to the University of Connecticut Toyota Holiday Classic last Thursday and Friday.

Vallorani scored a goal and two assists to lead the River Hawks to a 7-2 victory over Rensselaer on Thursday. His shorthanded tally late in the first period went on to become the game-winning goal and marked his 100th career point – making him only the 40th player in program history to join the century club.

Vallorani followed Thursday’s performance with a two-goal night in the championship against host Connecticut on Friday night. His goal in the 14th minute of overtime clinched the victory and gave UMass Lowell its first in-season tournament crown since the Florida College Classic in 2007-08.

He is currently tied with classmate Matt Ferreira (Brampton, Ont.) for the team-lead in scoring with 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Vallorani also leads all Hockey East skaters with four game-winning goals.

Vallorani is the son of Olivio and Margherita Vallorani of Hamilton, Ontario.

Founded in 1857, Northwestern Mutual is a proud partner of UMass Lowell athletics.
