Lewis Hits NCAA Mark, Toussaint Eighth at Harvard Multi-Invitational

Sophomore Keith Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) compiled 4.618 points and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in the heptathlon to lead three UMass Lowell athletes at the Harvard Multi-Invitational at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center.

Lewis placed fifth overall and first among the three Division II and III athletes in the field of 12. Freshman Richard Kirby (Tewksbury, Mass.) compiled 4,260 points and placed ninth.

In the women’s pentathlon, sophomore Antoinette Toussaint (Somerville, Mass.) compiled 3,178 points to place eight overall and tops among the three Division II and III athletes in the field of 21.

Lewis captured the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:45.30 and tied for first in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 6.75’’, to highlight the seven-event showcase. He also placed third in the 60 meter dash in 7.22 seconds and fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.78 seconds.

Additionally, he placed tied for eighth in the pole vault (10’ 4.0’’) and ninth in both the long jump (18’ 5.75’’) and the shot put (33’ 5.75’’).

Kirby highlighted with the heptathlon by finishing tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 13’ 3.5’’; and third in the 1,000 meters in 2:48.26. Kirby also took eighth in the long jump (18’ 7.75’’) and ninth in both the 60 meter hurdles (9.24) and the 60 meter dash (7.49).

Stefano Combi won the heptathlon title with 5,201 points as he won the 60 meter dash (7.07), long jump (23’ 2.75’’) and 60 meter hurdles (8.45).

Toussaint highlighted the women’s pentathlon by placing second in the high jump as she cleared 5 feet, 5.0 inches, just behind Allison Barwise of Boston University, who cleared 5’ 8.5’’.

Toussaint also took sixth in the 800 meters in 2:28.94, 11th in the 60 meter dash in 9.45 seconds, 12th in the long jump with a distance of 15’ 9.5’’ and 17th in the shot put with a throw of 23’ 9.5.

Heather Miller of the Central Park Track Club won the pentathlon with 3,674 and highlighted by winning the long jump with a leap of 18’ 5.25’’ and placing second in the shot put (33’ 4.65’’).

UMass Lowell enters the Boston University Terrier Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
