LIVE WOMEN'S SOCCER: UMass Lowell vs. Bentley

Sept. 6, 2011

Live Stats & Text | Game Program

UMass Lowell enters tonight’s Northeast-10 Conference opener fresh off a 1-1 showing at the University of Bridgeport Women’s Soccer Classic, defeating No. 9 C.W. Post Friday, but falling just short Sunday in a 0-1 loss to the host Purple Knights.

Despite the loss, the River Hawks enjoyed the run of play for most of the match but conceded in the 43rd minute and were never able to level. Against C.W. Post, however, UMass Lowell outshot the Pioneers 17-3 as freshman Brittany Russo capitalized in the 69th minute off good work from senior Maddy Bissaillon.

Freshman goalkeeper Jane Hatzikonstantis stopped two shots in her first collegiate action.

Bentley, coached by former UMass Lowell assistant Lauren Lukis (2001), enters the 2011 season looking to improve from last year’s frustrating 0-15-2 overall record and a 0-13-2 clip in the NE-10. The Falcons drew with Le Moyne (1-1) and away to Saint Michael’s (0-0) last year but opened this season with a 7-0 win over Dominican Sept. 1.

In last year’s clash, UMass Lowell emerged 1-0 in overtime when Brianne Bozzella ended the deadlock three minutes into the extra session.

Bentley leads the all-time series, 8-7-1, but it is the River Hawks with the momentum having won the last seven meetings. Following tonight’s match, UMass Lowell visits No. 1 Saint Rose Friday (5:00).
