Senior M Amy Cramer (Marlborough, Mass.) and freshman F Brittany Russo (Danvers, Mass.) scored goals six minutes apart in the second half as UMass Lowell defeated Bentley University, 2-0, Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer clash at Cushing Field.

With the win, UMass Lowell improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10 entering Friday night’s match at No. 1 Saint Rose (5:00). Bentley slipped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the Conference and visits Le Moyne Friday at 3:00.

Cramer broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when junior F Julia Donigian (Wakefield, Mass.) took possession on the left flank, turned and centered to Cramer, who drew Bentley G Christiana Hynds closer before slotting inside the left post.

The River Hawks doubled their lead six minutes later as Russo and senior M Maddy Bissaillon (Merrimac, Mass.) combined for the second time in three matches. Bissaillon sent a through-ball into the box, which was mishandled by Hynds, allowing Russo to tap in.

UMass Lowell outshot the Falcons 19-7 overall and 10-4 on frame. Hynds had eight saves for Bentley while freshman Jane Hatzikonstantis (Tewksbury, Mass.) stopped four shots en route to her second clean sheet in as many matches.

Both teams had opportunities to convert, particularly early in the match. In the first minute, Bissaillon steered a loose ball on the top right corner of the box just over the crossbar.

In the seventh minute, Bissaillon fed junior F Keanna Santos (Lakeville, Mass.) streaking down the right side of the box, but her attempt caromed off the near post.

Junior Lauren Muise threatened several times throughout the first half, her best opportunity in the 11th minute when she went one-on-one with Hatzikonstantis, who parried the shot right. Muise picked up the rebound, but Hatzikonstantis snuffed the second attempt.

In the 52nd minute, sophomore M Patti McAllister nearly gave Bentley the lead when she sidefooted from the top of the box over Hatzikonstantis, only to be denied by the crossbar.
