Leathersich Returns to Lowell with Brooklyn Cyclones

Aug. 29, 2011

Former River Hawk standout Jack Leathersich (Beverly, Mass.) will make his return to LeLacheur Park as a professional baseball player on Tuesday night. The Brooklyn Cyclones begin a three-game set with the Lowell Spinners and he is expected to make a relief appearance during Tuesday's series opener.

The appearance will mark Leathersich's first trip to LeLacheur since he was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the New York Mets on June 7. Since joining the Mets' Single A affiliate, he has compiled a 0.84 earned run average in 10.2 innings pitched. Leathersich has struck out 22 batters and allowed just five hits.

While a member of UMass Lowell from 2009-11, Leathersich set numerous records such as his single-season marks for strikeouts (126), strikeouts per nine innings (12.76) and most double-digit strikeout games (7). All-time at UMass Lowell, he is tied for third in career strikeouts (251) and fifth in ERA (2.50).
