Track & Field: Raimondi, Zielinski 1-2 in 100 Meter Hurdles Preliminary

Day One Results

Senior Lauren Raimondi (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Ashley Zielinski (Manchester, N.H.) finished first and second in the 100 meter hurdles preliminary Friday in the Northeast-10 Conference Track & Field Championship at the Cushing Field Complex.

The two-day championship continues Saturday beginning at 11:30 with the men's shot put and continues throughout the afternoon, ending with the 5,000 meters, 4X800 and 4X400 meter relays at 2:30.

Raimondi won the preliminary in 15.02 seconds and edged Zielinski (15.14) by 0.12 seconds. The final is scheduled for 1:05 Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Samantha Otten (Ashland, Mass.) placed second in the javelin with a throw of 132 feet, 11.0 inches, behind only senior Kambryn Williams of American International won the event with a distance of 148' 5.0''.

Leading the men's effort was senior William Nguidjoi (Lawrence, Mass.) and freshman Cameron Mitchell (Wakefield, Mass.). Nguidjoi placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 22' 7.75'', and will enter the triple jump Saturday at 11:30.

Mitchell took fifth in the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.65 seconds, just ahead of freshman Vladimir Francois (North Attleboro, Mass.) who placed sixth in 16.21. Both advance to the 110 hurdles final Saturday at 1:10 p.m.

Junior Maddy Bissaillon (Merrimac, Mass.) placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 115' 9.0'' and was one of three River Hawks in the top 10. Freshman Candace Greene (Annapolis, Md.), who is the top seed in the shot put (Saturday, 11:30), placed ninth in the discus (100' 2.0'') while sophomore Robyn Ciriello (Salem, N.H.) took 10th with a toss of 99' 9.0''.

In the men's discus, freshman Kevin Peter (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed seventh with a throw of 125' 4.0'' while freshman Ryan O'Grady (Billerica, Mass.) took ninth with an effort of 117' 7.0''.

In other events, freshman Diamond Jones (Lowell, Mass.) placed sixth in the 100 meter dash in 12.88 seconds while freshman Jamal Abu Hijleh (Peabody, Mass.) placed eighth in the javelin (131' 2.0'').
