April 7, 2011

Live Stats

Following yesterday's decisive 10-run victory over Saint Anselm, UMass Lowell baseball heads to the Hawks' Sullivan Field with the season sweep in reach at 3:30 p.m.

The River Hawks, winners in nine of the last 10, are locked in a tie for first in the Northeast-10 with Southern Connecticut St. as the clubs own matching 8-1 records. Overall, UMass Lowell is 21-3 on the season. Saint Anselm enters Thursday's contest at an 11-13 clip and are 3-6 in conference play.

At LeLacheur Park on Wednesday, Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) provided the River Hawks' firepower with three hits, four RBI and two runs scored. The outburst tied Sanborn's career-high in RBI, set earlier this season against Caldwell College on Mar. 5. The junior slugger now carries a team-high .327 batting average.

Setting the table for Sanborn, third baseman James Katsiroubas (Milton, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Reliever Bryant Guilmette (Hopkinton, Mass.) was a savoir out of the bullpen, coming in on short notice after starter Garrett Cole (Manchester, N.H.) was struck with a line drive. Guilmette (3-0) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four batters.

For the season, Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) leads UMass Lowell's offense with a club-best 26 RBI. Kneeland is also hitting .326 with a pair of home runs and nine doubles.

After today's game, the River Hawks will rest up before Adelphi arrives at LeLacheur Park on Saturday for a conference double-header beginning at noon.
