Junior Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) knocked in four runs in a 12-2 River Hawk victory over Saint Anselm at LeLacheur Park on Wednesday afternoon. Tied for first in the Northeast-10, UMass Lowell has won nine of its last 10 games.

The victory improved the River Hawks' record to 21-3 on the campaign and a stellar 8-1 in conference action. The Hawks stumble to 11-13 overall and 3-6 in NE-10 play.

UMass Lowell jumped on the scoreboard early, plating a trio of runs in the first inning. Catcher Rob Noe (Lynnfield, Mass.) lined a two-out single into center field to bring home Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) and James Katsiroubas (Milton, Mass.). Sanborn followed a few batters later with an RBI single to right, putting the River Hawks in front 3-0.

Saint Anselm seemed poised to counter in the second inning, loading the bases with no outs. Garrett Cole (Manchester, N.H.) got out of the jam with help from a double-play and strikeout, holding the Hawks scoreless.

Cole would eventually leave the game in the fourth, replaced by Bryant Guilmette (Hopkinton, Mass.), after being struck with a line drive. The next batter, Dan Lagasse (Londonderry, N.H.), recorded a sacrifice fly to bring home Robert Kelly (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) and cut the score to 3-1.

The River Hawks added seven runs in the middle innings. Pat Devlin (Tewksbury, Mass.) started with an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fourth. Then, in the fifth, UMass Lowell scored six runs, highlighted by two RBI double off the bat of Sanborn.

The score expanded to 12-1 in the eighth as the River Hawks tallied two more scores. Felix Martinez (Miami, Fla.) notched an RBI single and Sanborn hit a sacrifice fly to plate T.J. Larivee (Salem, Mass.).

Saint Anselm would get one run back in the ninth, but the score would ultimately settle at 12-2.

Cole pitched 3.1 innings before leaving due to injury. The sophomore struck out four batters, allowed one hit and walked three. Guilmette was strong in 3.2 relief innings, collecting his third win of the season. He allowed one hit, one walk and fanning four. Tyler Toyfair (Agawam, Mass.) and Nick Boutoures (Wilmington, Mass.) pitched the final two frames with the game well in hand.

Sanborn was the star of the day, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Katsiroubas also shined, with two hits and three runs scored.

With today's win in the books, UMass Lowell will look to sweep the season series as it heads to Sullivan Field for a rematch with Saint Anselm tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
