In a crucial late season Northeast-10 battle, UMass Lowell baseball hosts Franklin Pierce at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at LeLacheur Park.
The contest will mark a rematch after the teams met just two days prior, with the Ravens pulling out a 3-0 victory. The River Hawks (31-7, 14-5 NE-10) are looking to split the season series as they jockey for position in the NE-10 playoff picture. Franklin Pierce (33-7, 17-3 NE-10) is firmly entrenched in the conference's top spot and was recently ranked 10th in Collegiate Baseball News' NCAA Division II Poll.
UMass Lowell has a wealth of momentum on its side today, riding a two-run walk-off homer by Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) to top Post University, 7-6, on Wednesday night. The long ball was Kneeland's second of the game, he finished 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.
For the season, Kneeland is hitting .361 with five home runs and 47 RBI. The shortstop is also leading the team with a .583 slugging percentage, 18 walks and 13 doubles.
Another key cog in the lineup for the River Hawks has been left fielder Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.). Batting second, Burns is hitting .252 with 18 RBI and 33 runs scored. What stands out most about Burns is his patience at the plate; the senior has drawn 16 walks--second most on the team.
Leading the high-powered Raven offense is Derek Ingui (Sterling, Mass.) who enters play with a .400 batting average and a .700 slugging percentage. Ingui has totaled 41 RBI and 43 runs scored.
After today, UMass Lowell will jump right back into action on Saturday when American International comes to LeLacheur Park for a noontime double-header.
