Results
Sophomore Evan White (Tewksbury, Mass.) won the 200 meter dash, set a school record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in two events to lead UMass Lowell at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational Saturday at Weaver Stadium.
The Invitational traditionally draws schools from all three NCAA Divisions as well as athletes representing postgraduate track and field clubs from all over the East.
White ran the 200 meter dash in 21.21 seconds, besting his own previous record of 21.41 set last year. White’s result currently ranks 16th on the latest NCAA Division II Qualifying list.
Freshman Tim Regan (Sandwich, Mass.) placed 27th overall and second among Division II-III sprinters in 22.66 seconds.
White also ran a 46.16-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which also cruised to first place with a provisional NCAA qualifying time of 3:11.14. The result currently stands eighth on the Division II list.
Joining White on the 4X400 was sophomore Craig Bennett (Milton, Mass.), who ran a 46.78-second leg; senior Donte Brown (Raynham, Mass.), who ran a 48.34 leg; and junior Jeff Wundt (Southwick, Mass.), who anchored in 49.13.
Freshman Keith Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) also hit an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 meter hurdles, placing eighth overall and third among Division II and III athletes in 53.70, currently 28th in the country. Brown also did well in the hurdles, placing 11th overall (fourth) in 54.35.
Seniors Cory Murray (Methuen, Mass.) and William Nguidjoi (Lawrence, Mass.) each emerged among Division II-III athletes in their events. Murray placed third overall in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 5.5 inches.
Nguidjoi took third overall in the triple jump with a distance of 46’ 0.75’’ and also placed 11th overall (third) in the long jump with a distance of 21’ 10.25’.
Several UMass Lowell athletes will enter the Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday while the remainder of the roster enters the Stonehill Skyhawk Invitational Friday at W.B. Mason Stadium.
