Left-hander Jack Leathersich (Beverly, Mass.) struck out 10 batters on Tuesday night in a 3-1 win over Stonehill College at LeLacheur Park.

The River Hawks have now won five consecutive games, improving to 27-6 overall on the season and 12-4 in conference play. The Skyhawks drop their second straight game, falling to 25-11 on the campaign and 10-6 in Northeast-10 action.

UMass Lowell took the game's first lead in the bottom of the second inning. Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) ripped a one-out double into the right-center gap. A few batters later, Dylan Flynn (Upton, Mass.) hit a single into right field to bring Sanborn home.

The advantage wouldn't last however, as the Skyhawks leveled the game in the top of the third. Nick Nardacci (Glenmont, N.Y.) singled to start the inning and eventually came home on an errant throw to first by the second baseman.

After a rocky first few innings, Leathersich settled down mid-way through the third. The hard throwing lefty set down 12 batters in row, highlighted by striking out the side in order in the fifth.

Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) came through in the clutch during the sixth inning, hitting a two-out two-run line drive double over the center fielder's head to reestablish the lead at 3-1 and ultimately win the game.

Leathersich finished the outing with seven innings pitched to improve to 5-1 on the season. The junior allowed four hits, one run, one walk and hit three batters. Leathersich struck out 10 hitters, his fourth consecutive start with double-digit strikeouts.

Dallas Nunes (Easton, Mass.) pitched the final two innings, picking up his seventh save of the season. Nunes held the Skyhawks hitless and walked two batters.

With the crucial late season win in the books, UMass Lowell prepares for an encounter with Dominican at LeLacheur Park on Thursday at 5 p.m.
