River Hawk baseball heads to Manchester, NH on Sunday afternoon for a Northeast-10 showdown with Southern New Hampshire at 2 p.m.
UMass Lowell looks to extend its terrific 4-0 start to conference play and 17-2 overall record. The River Hawks are riding a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 41-17. The Penmen enter Sunday at 9-10 on the season and 0-2 in NE-10 play.
On Saturday, UMass Lowell swept a double-header with New Haven, 5-1 and 7-5. In the first contest, pitcher Jack Leathersich (Beverly, Mass.) threw a complete game victory while allowing just two hits and striking out 10. In the late game, leadoff hitter Matt Jacobs (Hudson, Mass.) was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored--including a solo home run.
Overall, Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) and James Katsiroubas (Milton, Mass.) are tied with a team-high .321 batting average. Sanborn also has 11 RBI and 19 runs scored, while Katsiroubas has 14 RBI and 11 stolen bases.
Slugger Cam Kneeland (Rowley, Mass.) leads all River Hawks with 21 RBI and a .501 slugging percentage. The star shortstop also holds a .307 batting average and a team-best 20 runs scored.
Toeing the rubber, Leathersich (3-1) carries a 2.48 ERA and a team-high 41 strikeouts. Captain Dustin Ramey (Kingston, N.H.) is also having a strong season with a 2-1 record, 1.59 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
