UMass Lowell starting pitcher Jack Leathersich (Beverly, Mass.) was recently interviewed for the March issue of New England Baseball Journal.
The article, which chronicles his rise from an intriguing prospect at Beverly High School to a potential major-league pitcher, can be read here.
The junior hurler has been electric to start the 2011 season, jumping out to a 2-0 record with a 0.75 ERA and 14 strikeouts. Leathersich has walked just three batters and limited opponents to one extra base hit thus far.
Named the 2009 Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year, Leathersich has been a hot commodity since his first collegiate season. After a stellar stint with the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League this past summer, the left hander was ranked third among all Division II players in the upcoming MLB Draft by Baseball America.
For his career, Leathersich has compiled a 12-6 record over 139.1 inning pitched and a 2.91 ERA. He has struck out 139 batters--tied for 13th most in program history--and held opponents to a .223 batting average.
