Terrier Invitational Success Leads to NE-10 Honors for UMass Lowell Quartet

Junior Amy Delgado (Bridgewater, Mass.) was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week Tuesday and led four UMass Lowell women’s and men’s track and field athletes who won similar honors, the Northeast-10 Conference announced Tuesday.

Freshman David Brown (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named the Men’s Track Rookie of the Week while freshman Candace Green (Annapolis, Md.) was named the Women’s Field Rookie of the Week and freshman Keith Lewis (Nashua, N.H.) the Men’s Field Rookie of the Week.

Delgado provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship in two events: the 4X400 meter relay and the 400 meter dash. In the relay, she ran the anchor leg in 57.4 seconds and led UMass Lowell to first place with a time of 3:48.15, which currently ranks second on the most recent NCAA Division II list and second all-time.

Delgado also placed sixth overall in the 400 meter dash in 57.29 seconds, currently 13th on the Division II list.

Brown, who earned the honor for the third time this season and second straight week, placed seventh overall (second among Division II-III runners) in the 800 meters in 1:53.43 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship. He also ran a 49.9-second split on UMass Lowell’s 4X400 meter relay ‘B’ team which placed 12th overall (fifth) in 3:21.78.

Brown currently ranks fifth on the latest NCAA Division II 800 meters list.

Greene, cited for the first time this season after three weeks on the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll, placed second overall and tops among Division II-III throwers in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 8.0 inches. The throw, a personal best, fell just 3.5 inches shy of meeting the NCAA provisional mark.

Competing at the Harvard Multi Meet, Lewis placed fifth overall (first) in the heptathlon with 4,627 points to provisionally qualify for the NCAAs.

Lewis, who scored the third-highest point total in UMass Lowell heptathlon history, placed second (among 15 athletes) in the high jump (6’ 3.5’’) and the 60 meter dash (7.27 seconds); third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.49) and the shot put (36’ 2.25’’) and fifth in the 1,000 meters (2:56.57).

Sophomore Evan White (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman Elisabeth Monty (Charlton, Mass.) were each named to the Weekly Honor Roll. White was the top collegiate runner (second overall) in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.47 seconds, the second-fastest result in school history.

White also ran a 46.8-second split on UMass Lowell’s 4x400 meter relay team which won the field at BU and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship with a time of 3:11.78. The result is currently third on the Division II list.

Monty ran a 57.1-second leg on UMass Lowell’s first-place 4X400 meter relay team (3:48.15) and placed fifth (second) in the 60 meter hurdles I 9.10 seconds.

UMass Lowell enters the Yale University Giegengack Invitational Friday and Saturday in New Haven, Ct.
