Sophomore Candace Greene (Annapolis, Md.) was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday after winning shot put at the Northeastern University Jay Carisella Invitational, the Northeast-10 Conference announced.
Greene threw for a distance of 42 feet, 8.25 inches in the season-opening meet, edging out Kelsey Huckins of Boston College, who placed second with a toss of 41' 8.0''.
Greene was one of three River Hawks cited by the NE-10 as senior Ashley Zielinski (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Taelour Murphy (Salisbury, Mass.) were each named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Zielinski ran a 58.3-second leg on UMass Lowell's 4X400 meter relay team which won the title in 3:57.22, and also took second overall - tops among Division II-III athletes - in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.47 seconds.
Murphy placed sixth overall - first among Division II and III athletes - in the 200 meter dash in 26.53 seconds. She also took seventh overall (fourth) in the 55 meter dash in 7.52 seconds.
UMass Lowell enters the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis University Saturday.
