Carr Named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week

Sophomore goalie Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) was named UMass Lowell’s Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Tuesday after leading the River Hawks to a sweep of the University of New Hampshire in Hockey East action Friday and Saturday.

Carr stopped 78-of-83 shots (.940) in the two games. On Friday night in front of the largest crowd in program history (6,826), Carr led the River Hawks to a 3-2 victory when he turned away 33 of 35 shots.

On Saturday night, he was even better stopping 45 of 48 shots including 28 in the first period alone.

Carr's .935 save percentage ranks tied for fifth in the NCAA. Carr also holds the nation's sixth best GAA (1.78).

Carr was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for November when he went 5-0-0 with a .941 save percentage and a 1.40 goals against average. He was also among Hockey East’s top performers this week.

Carr is the son Elaine and Jake Carr of Hanover, Mass.
