UMass Lowell, seeded No. 2 in the North Region, hosts No. 3 American International College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in the NCAA Tournament first round at Cushing Field.
The winner will advance to the NCAA Tournament semifinal next Friday, hosted by South Region No. 1 Bloomsburg, and will face Merrimack, seeded No. 1 in the North Region, at 4:00. No. 2 Shippensburg hosts No. 3 West Chester today in the South Region first round, the winner of which will meet Bloomsburg Friday at 1:00.
UMass Lowell (15-3) is fresh off capturing its second straight and seventh Northeast-10 Conference Tournament title in nine years, in which it overcame a 2-0 deficit at the half en route to a 3-2 win over Merrimack.
American International (12-8), making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, earned the bid after stunning Bentley, 3-2, in the first round of the NE-10 Tournament. The Yellow Jackets finished fifth in the NE-10 regular season with a 6-4 clip.
UMass Lowell won the regular season clash, 4-0, behind two goals from senior Kayla Littig and one each from Janelle DeCamillis and Emily Painten. The River Hawks outshot AIC 19-4 on target.
