Rookie Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) scored 16 kills and 14 digs as UMass Lowell volleyball fell in four sets to Saint Rose on Friday night in the Costello Gymnasium.

The River Hawks fall to 11-10 overall and 7-7 in conference action, while the Golden Knights improve to 15-8 this season and 10-4 in the Northeast-10. UMass Lowell remains slotted in the eighth and final spot of the NE-10 Tournament, but needs a victory over Le Moyne on Saturday to punch its ticket.

The match scores were 25-27, 25-21, 20-25 and 13-25.

The clubs battled tooth and nail in the opening frame, extending play to extra points. Along the way, Rey scored five kills and five digs to lead the offense, while Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) dug five balls to help. The teams went step for step down the stretch, but a kill by Alex Gagliano (Cornwall, N.Y.) gave Saint Rose a 25-26 edge, setting up the set-winning service ace by Katy Daniels (South Hadley, Mass.).

The River Hawks turned that disappoint into fuel for the second set, racing to a four-point win. Rey landed eight kills and Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) scored four as UMass Lowell tallied a .486 attack percentage.

The Golden Knights snatched a five-point win in the third set as the River Hawks kept shooting themselves in the foot. In addition to totaling seven attack errors, UMass Lowell incurred seven service errors to gift Saint Rose 14 points.

The River Hawks fizzled in the fourth, recording just 13 points in the final set. UMass Lowell's offense managed just five kills, led by Rey who tallied two.

For the night, Rey enjoyed a 16 kill and 14 dig effort--her second consecutive double-double and seventh overall. Peterson also cracked double-digits with 11 kills and 10 digs.

Eddy totaled 11 digs to mark her fourth consecutive match with double-figures--her longest streak of the season.

The setting duties were split between Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) and Kristina Wiltjer (Temecula, Calif.). Parkins picked up 19 assists, while Wiltjer totaled 16 of her own.

Saint Rose was led by Aubrey Bobo (Oneida, N.Y.) who had 18 kills and eight digs.

UMass Lowell controls its own destiny in its regular season finale tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Le Moyne. A win secures a NE-10 Tournament berth, while a loss ends the year. Playing in their final match at the Costello Gymnasium, the River Hawks will honor its two seniors, Trina Carroll (Hampton, N.H.) and Lea Freeman (Methuen, Mass.), in a pre-game ceremony.
