River Hawk hockey is going back to its roots on October 8, hosting New Brunswick in the Chelmsford Forum for its annual preseason exhibition game at 7 p.m. Formerly known as the Tully Forum, the rink served as UMass Lowell's home from 1980-98 and was the site of the 1982 NCAA Division II National Championship game.
The 7 p.m. start will offer fans their first chance to see the new-look River Hawks in action under first-year head coach Norm Bazin, a 1994 graduate of the University.
Admission is free for the event. In addition, season ticket holders can pick up their season-ticket packets at the game.
The last time UMass Lowell faced New Brunswick in an exhibition game was on Oct. 13, 2007. The River Hawks prevailed, 5-3, as then-sophomore Chris Auger scored a goal and an assist.
With the exhibition game fast approaching, the start 2011-12 season is merely weeks away. The club expects to return 20 veteran players and welcomes 12 new faces to the roster. The season officially begins on October 14 in Mankato, MN though the team won't take the ice in Lowell until the Home Opener on Friday, October 28 against the defending Hockey East champion Boston College Eagles.
Season tickets are still on-sale through the UMass Lowell Ticket Office. Contact Scott Donnelly at (978) 934-4988 or via email at scott_donnelly@uml.edu for more information. To visit the River Hawk ticket page, click here.
