Junior Chris Estrella (Lowell, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Co-Athlete of the Week as he captured the individual title at the Franklin Park 5K Sunday in Boston.
Estrella shared the honor with Brian Nill of Southern Connecticut, who won the Connecticut College Invitational in 25:27 (8K).
Estrella, who was forced to pull out of the New England Championship last week after a minor injury in the first 100 meters, placed first in 16:08.09 and posted a 30.04-second advantage on the remainder of the field.
Estrella was one of six UMass Lowell runners in the top nine spots as head coach Gary Gardner used the race as a tune-up of sorts for when UMass Lowell hosts the NCAA East Region Championship on the Franklin Park course on Nov. 6.
UMass Lowell enters the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Sunday in Westfield, Mass. The River Hawks have won two straight NE-10 titles, four of the last five and eight of 11 as a NE-10 member institution.
