NE-10 Men's Soccer Release | NE-10 Women's Soccer Release
Daniel Galvin, a sophomore from Attleboro, Mass. (Bishop Feehan H.S.), was named the Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Player of the Week Monday after leading the UMass Lowell men’s soccer team to a 2-0 clip last week.
Additionally, freshmen Eric DeSantis (Woburn, Mass.) and Brittany Russo (Danvers, Mass.) were each named the NE-10 men’s and women’s rookies of the week.
Galvin and DeSantis led the UMass Lowell men to their fifth and sixth straight victories last week over Saint Michael’s (2-1, OT) and Saint Rose (7-1). Russo also lifted the UMass Lowell women to a 2-0 week with their fourth and fifth consecutive wins at Saint Michael’s (2-0) and at New Haven (2-0).
After UMass Lowell leveled with 24 seconds left to play in the win over Saint Michael’s, Galvin scored the winner in the second minute of overtime when he touched by a defender and slotted home from the right side inside the far post.
Galvin scored one goal and set up two others in Saturday’s win over Saint Rose. He assisted on the first of senior Mohammed Saeed’s (Woburn, Mass.) three goals in the 49th minute, then scored to give the River Hawks a 4-1 lead in the 63rd minute.
He set up Saeed’s third goal in the 65th for a 6-1 cushion.
DeSantis scored UMass Lowell’s second goal to lift it to a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute and set up Galvin’s goal in the 63rd minute.
The UMass Lowell men visit Saint Anselm next Saturday.
Russo, named the Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, scored the first goal in both UMass Lowell’s wins last week, her fifth and sixth of the season. She scored in the 27th minute in the win at Saint Michael’s and in the 53rd minute against New Haven.
The UMass Lowell women host No. 17 Merrimack Wednesday at 7:00.
