Senior forward Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) led the No. 3 River Hawks to a decisive 5-0 victory over Merrimack in non-conference action in North Andover on Tuesday evening. Enaire notched four goals in the game, tying her personal best.
Senior midfielder Liz Day (North Andover, Mass.) performed well in her hometown, scoring first, just under seven minutes into the game. Her tally, assisted by Annie Hansbury (Plaistow, N.H.) proved to be the game-winner.
Enaire then proceeded to score the next four consecutive goals, once in the final five minutes of the first half and then a three-goal explosion in the second.
Her first tally of the afternoon came just over 30 minutes into the tilt and was assisted by both Hansbury and Day. She followed up with an unassisted tally in the 45th minute of play and then scored again just four minutes later.
Her third goal of the day came from Northeast-10 Player of the Week Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.). Enaire’s final tally came in the 56th minute of play and was also unassisted, capping off the River Hawks’ 5-0 victory.
The win improved their record to 5-0 on the year, while Merrimack fell to 1-4 overall.
UMass Lowell’s Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) played the entire game in the cage for the River Hawks, stopping all three shots she faced. Merrimack’s Kerri Bergquist made 15 saves on the afternoon.
The River Hawks owned two distinct advantages in both shots (33-8) and penalty corners (17-7), helping them to the significant win.
The River Hawks look to continue their strong play this season with a trip to Saint Anselm on Saturday. They will take on the Hawks at 2:00 p.m. in Manchester, N.H. for a non-conference match.
